Making corrugated ornies

My sister, Brenda, came down recently to visit. We wanted to get together to figure out how to use our Cricut Makers. That was pretty funny because we discovered they’re super easy!

After cutting a few files on the Maker we were ready to play with something a little more fun. I remembered I had some corrugated stars cut so grabbed those, the gesso, glitter, paint, and some printed words.

Corrugated cardboard is easily die cut with the steel-rule dies from Sizzix. I cut several more, then we sat down to play and decorate.

They’re so easy to make. They can be spritzed with water to help distress the top layer of paper by peeling and rolling it back. Add some gesso then paint. Glitter can be added white the paint is wet and it actually sticks!

We added some vintage buttons, small medallions, printed words and wire. Vintage lace and beads can also be added to the wire to dress some up a bit more. So find yourself an old box and cut it up and use it for die-cutting some shapes. Get out the paints and glitter and have some messy fun!

Sweet Dreams – A banner idea

Linda_Neff_mini_mug_shotWhen you’re not much of a card maker it’s often a challenge to figure out how to use products made for card makers in a different way. That was my challenge for my new Spellbinder’s die I received recently.

This is the new Spellbinder’s Die Labels Thirty-Six, S4-418. They’re really cute labels! I used them to create an adorable banner. I love banners – don’t you? They just look so cute hanging across a window, cabinet, on the wall – just about anywhere! I started by cutting the shapes from a DCWV Stack titled Dark Romance. I chose several coordinating papers and cut each size out of different designs for stacking.

The title ‘DREAM’ is made from chipboard letters. I placed them in the Xyron 2.5″ Create-A-Sticker face-down then sprinkled with a pretty pinkish glitter – Tea Rose Ultrafine Opaque from Art Glitter.

I like to gently press the glitter into the adhesive to ensure it stays put. While the chipboard was out I ran some scraps through the Xyron as well to make dimensional squares for stacking the labels.

The two bottom layers of the larger flags are layered on top of one another, stuck together with Xyron 5″ Creative Station and permanent adhesive. The top layer is popped up with the home-made dimensional squares.

After stacking the three large labels together I then stacked the three smaller labels together to use as filler between the larger flags on the banner and added a little fussy-cut butterfly and moth.

After the letters are glittered they’re put through the Xyron 2.5″ Create-A-Sticker face up and then centered on the larger flag.

I used a 1/16″ Fiskars hole punch to make small holes near the tops of all the flags and threaded May Arts Solid Wrinkle Ribbon through them.

I’m happy with the results and think it looks very nice hanging on this old cabinet I’ve been working on lately. I think it would look very cute in a little girls room. I can see it hanging on the wall above the bed so send her off to slumber land with thoughts of sweet dreams.

Super Quick and Easy!

Howdy! Welcome and Happy Thanksgiving. Have a piece of pumpkin pie for me – lots of whip cream!

This is my last post as Guest Designer for Dreamweaver Stencils and I’m almost embarrassed to tell you how easy this project was.  But, like many of you this time of year I have more to do and not enough hours in the day so a quick and easy project is just perfect!

This is a cute little holiday decoration and I just am very pleased with the final results.

I used nothing more than an Ikea .99 cent frame, Dreamweaver Embossing Paste and the Ornate Xmas Tree stencil and just a bit of Christmas papers from the Bundled Up collection from Crate Paper.

This frame comes with two acrylic sheets that I slid out and peeled the protective layers off before taping the stencil to the acrylic sheet. I taped it so it doesn’t slide on me when I spread the embossing paste.

I spread the paste across the stencil to fill in all the tiny details of the stencil then carefully peel the tape away and lift the stencil leaving an embossed pattern on the acrylic sheets; repeat on the second acrylic sheet.

While the paste is still wet I sprinkled with a clear transparent finely ground glitter. I left it sit for an hour or so with the glitter on so the paste would set up and dry.

When the paste is dry I tapped the access glitter onto a sheet of office paper and slid back into the glitter container. Then I cut two 4X6 -inch sheets of the paper and slid the paper and the two embossed acrylic sheets into the frame – that’s it! They’re double-sided so what a great little table decoration or a piece to sit on a shelf for the holiday.

Like I said, a bit embarrassed at how quick and easy this was. It took me longer to write this post than to make this!
