Let’s make faux pallet art!

Linda_Neff_mini_mug_shotXyron has teamed with Core’dinations and Petaloo International this week to share some inspiration with you. I’ll have to admit these projects came together extremely easily because of the products we used.

Between running all my pieces through a Xyron, quickly creating distress with Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock and picking Petaloo flowers from a package and sticking them on with Xyron’s Adhesive Dots, I almost feel guilty.

Let me walk you through how easy this project can be. I created this with a young girl in mind – maybe 8-11 years old; it measures 12″X14″.

Pallet art is so hot right now, but not everyone has access to pallets and the tools required to make a simple sign. I started with four strips of chipboard, 3 1/2″X12″ and three strips of Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock. I was going for a hombre effect with the colors I chose. I used Xyron’s heart-shaped die to cut three hearts in different sizes. The chipboard letters are from my stash.

I embossed the hearts and letters then gently sanded the hearts and cardstock strips with the Core’dinations Sanding Gadget and cleared away the dust with their Dust Buddy. The letters are white-washed with a dry brush then glazed with clear glaze.

Process the cardstock strips through your Xyon Creative Station or use the Xyron Mega runner; adhere strips to chipboard (I used my Xyron Creatopia).

Adhere strips together by adding two additional strips on chipboard running the opposite direction to hold the four strips together. Run the Petaloo International Fancy Trims through the Xyron 1 1/2″ Sticker Maker or use Xyron’s Adhesive Dots; these flowers are from the Darjeeling Collection. Place the ribbon where you like and add the hearts. I popped the middle heart up with homemade pop dots (Chipboard scraps cut into small squares, run through Sticker Maker and stack them together).

Letters and flowers are adhered with Xyron’s 3/8″ Adhesive Dots. And now you have created a faux pallet art sign!

A temporary pane…

Linda_Neff_mug_shot_2013Welcome! We’re in the middle of the Xyron and Doodlebug Blog Hop and I’ve got a treat for you! I took one of my old windows and transformed it into a Fall home decor project that doubles as a dry erase board where I can leave messages for the family.

Doodlebug Design shared quite a bit of new product with us and it was so much fun to play with. I received beautiful papers and colorful stickers and embellishments from their Happy Harvest line.

I started by spreading out my papers and cleaning my window panes.

The pattern needed to be broken up amongst the panes so I matched two textured cardstocks from Core’dinations and cut them all to size. I lightly sanded the textured cardstock to add a bit of interest and wiped away the paper dust with the Core’dinations Sand-It cloth.

With the papers cut to fit inside the window panes they were very easy to attach using Xyron’s High Tack Adhesive Dots. I used the 3/16″ because the smaller size is easier to disguise.

Once the backgrounds papers were attached – to the backside of each window pane – the rest was pure fun!

I added the stickers and embellies to the front of the window panes and framing. It was like playing with Colorforms (remember those?).

At the end I decided to add a little banner to string across the window. The shape is cut from more Doodlebug papers using a Tim Holtz die along with some rosettes to fancy them up just a bit and added some Doodlebug Sprinkles in the rosette centers.

By placing the pretty papers behind each window pane the panes are used as a dry erase board as well.

Artful tag

1379285_10201160006777115_1053883481_nWelcome to the Xyron and Core’dinations blog hop! We’ve been hopping all week so if you missed any, please click this link to catch up on all the other fantastic projects.

I had a grand time playing with the Core’dinations cardstocks in creating this tag.

I started by cutting the tag using dot textured tan cardstock from the Core Essentials Collection by Core’dinations and the Tim Holtz Tag & Bookplates die by Sizzix.

The pinecone and greenery are cut from Core’dinations Tim Holtz & Ranger Distress Collection using the Tim Holtz Tattered Pinecone die by Sizzix.

Coredinations_Xyron_Tag_linda_neffI inked the edges of all the pieces with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and edged with Black Soot. The pieces really started to shape up when I lightly sanded them all with the Core’dinations Sand It Set sanding block and wiped the dust away with the kits’ cleaning cloth. I loved the way the sandpaper squares stick to the loops on the sanding block. It is so easy to switch out to a new sandpaper! Some Ranger Clear Crackle Paint is spread across the greenery and set aside to dry and crack.

Coredinations_Xyron_Tag_linda_neff_2The pinecones assemble so easily. I rolled them as directed and sealed them shut with the Xyron’s Clear Hold Adhesive from the Teresa Collins Adhesive Kit. I also put a small amount of the glue on my non-stick craft sheet and used my finger to spread in on the pinecone tips and then sprinkled on a bit of gold glitter for some sparkle.

Coredinations_Xyron_Tag_linda_neff_3Once the pieces were assembled and dry, the sentiment stamped onto a scrap of manilla tag, I was able to construct the tag. The small flat pieces were processed through the Xyron 1.5″ Create-a-Sticker.

Coredinations_Xyron_Tag_linda_neff_4Once assembled, I tied a pretty piece of May Arts wrinkle ribbon to the top so it could hang and it looks great hanging from this burlap wreath!
