We often get asked just what is Green Door Studio. Truth be told, we don’t really have it figured out quite yet. We’re still evolving.
When Rachel and I decided to open this business a little over two years ago our thoughts were that we would offer classes and sell our painted furniture. Over time the business has changed a bit but remains pretty close to what we had in mind.
We still scour estate sales and auctions for pieces to redo and now we’ve expanded to custom painting.
The custom painting has kept me really busy lately and I have commissions waiting to come in well into February.
Classes run the gamut – from how to make a burlap wreath and ATC’s to art journaling, scrapbooking, card-making and mixed media. Students recently learned to use a Styrofoam ball, plaster gauze and an old bed spring to build an adorable snowman with tons of personality!
At the end of October we made the decision to move our business after scouting out a variety of locations. We didn’t go far – just about three miles North but our space is more open and nice and bright. We really like our current home.
The classroom area is spacious and roomy. It seats up to 10 comfortably and is still cozy and intimate – just the way I like it!
Green Door Studio is not your typical cutesy home decor/gift/craft store/studio. There’s no pretty fairy lights hanging from the ceiling and no mood lighting. We cram it in and sometimes I’ll admit it ain’t real pretty.
We sell some craft supplies – inks, glues, paper pads – Kaisercraft and Graphic45 with some Prima in the mix.
You’ll find furniture pieces – mostly good, solid, vintage project pieces (take as is or we’ll paint it for you) and painted pieces. The odd little piece of this or that comes and goes – rusty bed springs, brass pieces, vintage bingo numbers and the like.
To keep up with all the goings-on for Green Door Studio check our newsletter (in the sidebar above) and head over to our Facebook page and give us a ‘like.’
When you’re in the area (6105 Grand River, Brighton 48114), stop in and say ‘hi.’ The coffee is always on!
Linda, I LOVE your furniture, it’s beautiful. I might stop in sometime, you’re only an hourish away from me!
